What Is Community Acupuncture?

Community Acupuncture (CA) is a way of providing acupuncture to the public at low cost. By lowering the cost, the countless benefits of acupuncture become available to a greater population. In this way patients are able to have treatments more regularly, which is extremely important in producing deeper and more rapid therapeutic effects. CA is done in a group atmosphere. The CA model is actually much closer to how acupuncture is administered in the integrated hospitals of modern day China.

Sessions are designed for a patient based on their unique health concerns. Generally a patient will begin by having a private session with the acupuncturist to discuss the chief complaint, health history, and current health status. At this time the acupuncturist will design an individualized treatment plan for the patient. This way when the patient arrives at their CA session, the treatment plan is in place and can be put into action immediately. After a given number of CA sessions, a follow-up private session may be scheduled to monitor progress and to determine if adjustments need to be made in the treatment plan.

What Does It Look Like?

When you arrive for a CA treatment, first you will sign in. Next, you will find an open chair in the treatment area, and the acupuncturist will come over to you to administer treatment. Gentle lighting, soft music, and comfortable chairs are intended to help you relax, enjoy, and get the most of your session. ALL CELL PHONES MUST BE TURNED OFF UPON SIGNING IN, as this is a group environment where relaxation is essential.
