Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an ancient system of health and well-being that has been in practice for the past three to five thousand years. Based on Taoist philosophy, TCM is rooted in the observation and application of natural laws and principles as they apply to living beings. In this view we have a direct and interrelated relationship with our surroundings that can serve as a source of either health or illness. Furthermore the body, mind, and spirit function as a unified whole; imbalances of one will manifest in the others.
In TCM all things are broken down into their Yin and Yang (opposing but complimentary) attributes. Accordingly Yin and Yang are reflected in every aspect of our beings, and the balances of these determine the health, vitality, and longevity of the body. Unbalanced Yin and Yang result in disharmony, dis-ease, illness. External environmental pathogens, emotional imbalance, indulgence in harmful foods and intoxicants, a stressful lifestyle and over exertion all disrupt the harmony of Yin and Yang in the body. Consequently balanced living is considered the cause of health, well being, and longevity.

Everything that we do requires energy. TCM refers to this energy as qi. Qi is what keeps our hearts beating, our lungs breathing, our kidneys filtering, our senses illuminated, all of the processes of our body functioning, without any conscious effort on our part. This energy travels through intricate pathways which integrate the body. These meridians carry qi-energy and information from one part of the body to another, similar to the roadways that allow for our travels from place to place. When the free movement of qi becomes constrained, pain, disharmony, and illness will manifest.
If we wish to experience optimum health and well being, it is essential to establish a proper and unobstructed flow of energy and blood throughout the body. TCM is a highly customized form of medicine which utilizes acupuncture, herbal medicine, massage, nutrition, exercise, and meditation to realize this objective.
